Max Out Your Moxie

Moxie is not easy to define. The name first originated in the late 18th Century as a soft drink but today the recipe is a little different. If we were to try and max out your moxie in the lab, this is how we might put it all together:

A hit of grit

Determination makes up a big part of moxie. It is that inner resolve where you say to yourself “I’m going to give this all I have to make it happen.” You knuckle down, tighten your belt and go forward, even though your knees may be knocking together. We call it true grit.

A pinch of pep

We all need energy to get through the day. There’s also different kinds of energy for different situations. Sometimes we need the slow long burn energy of the marathon and sometimes we need a quick pick-me-up to handle a surprise. Moxie is more about the pep that gives you sudden acceleration and livens up the moment.

A shot of savvy

DeterminationDetermination and energy is not enough. A winning combination is one with some cunning street smarts. You need to know when to apply the right knowledge and experience to the task. Playing that trick up your sleeve with cleverness will have them shouting “They have moxie!”

A nip of nerve

It’s in moments of danger that we need nerve. We look down the track and know that an error may result in pain or humiliation. Nerve gives us the boldness to go ahead even though we know we might not succeed. We throw caution to the wind and like Nike’s famous slogan, We just do it. Nerve is moxie. Moxie is nerve.

A dollop of dash

But moxie is more than all of these elements. We say “moxie” when a person does a difficult task with style. The flair and ingenuity they bring with them has heads nodding in admiration. Dash is the magic ingredient that turns mettle into moxie. It’s the ability to carry out a task with grace, grit and above all, a big grin.

How you find it

DashMany people find their moxie when playing extreme sports, but you can find it in any tough situation. Whether it is in the office, at home or at school, moxie is needed everywhere. It’s a state of mind. Many people take our stunt driving lessons to put themselves in a place where they know they will need some moxie. Learning a new stunt puts you in the ‘moxie state of mind.’ It’s a way to practice putting the recipe together, so that later on when you need moxie, you know how to summon it up. Performing stunts allows you to practice your driving skills while learning how to find your moxie at the same time.

Why you need it

Moxie helps you win, particularly in team building activities. While others may have the same skills as you, moxie can make the difference. It’s the mental edge that gets you through with style and speed. Moxie finds a way to make it work and is a valuable character trait. And that’s why one of our themes for 2019 is

Lessons Learned When Stunt Driving

We have had over 3500 people through our stunt drive classes. Many have written to us, thanking us for the stunt driving course and how it helped them deal with their own lives. Here are the top five lessons learned from our stunt drive programs.

1. Remain calm when things seem out of control

When stunt driving, you’ll often find yourself in a car that is out of control. This moment can be scary and full of panic. However, it can be good to put yourself in this situation as you realize the importance of remaining calm. Controlling your panic allows you to see the situation clearly and know what to do next. It allows you to try again and keep moving down the road to success. With time, you understand that the situation was not as bad as you had thought and even in the worst situations, controlling your panic is a valuable skill for everyday living.

Precision is a key element to a great car stunt. Drivers must learn to hit their mark consistently and accurately. Great stunters are constantly practicing their craft to ensure they are always exactly where they should be. It’s not enough to be close. Precision also reduces the risk of something going wrong. In the movie world, it can mean the difference between an action scene that makes the movie a hit or the point where people go and get popcorn.

3. Be aware of your daily habits.

People going through our stunt program soon discover their bad driving habits and how that can prevent them from being a good driver. Some people steer the car as if washing the windshield. They soon realize how this bad habit impacts their driving. Other bad habits such as not watching the road carefully soon surface when in a stunt driving program. Stunt driving reminds us that we often drift into lazy ways of driving when we need to be vigilant and competent when controlling a motor vehicle.

4. Focus on the path and not on the obstacles.

When stunt driving, you have a clearly defined path that you must follow. If you keep looking at the obstacles, that is where you will instinctively steer and you will end up hitting your obstacle. If you keep your focus on the path, then you will automatically steer the car along the path. Follow the path and don’t look at the obstacles. You will have success.

5. Adrenaline needs to be managed

Adrenaline is an important part of our physiology and helps us deal with difficult situations that involve split second decisions and timing and danger. However, letting adrenaline take over and making rash decisions is not helpful. In extreme situations, as in life, if you can manage your adrenaline correctly, you can use it to your advantage. The key is understanding when you have a surge of adrenaline, and then riding that wave with you in control. The adrenaline will help with precision, accurate driving and those split second decisions.

Although we are not a stunt driving school, our stunt driving courses are great for the ‘school of life.’ That’s why we also emphasize that, above all, make sure you have fun!

We kicked off  the summer this year with our Full Tilt / No Guilt Stunt Drive Challenge. It has been designed for all you adrenaline junkies out there.

This year we’re taking it up a notch with some new ideas and keepin’ it REAL [like always]. The stunt challenge has been a great success with our group events and this year promises some extra surprises so stay tuned folks.

We’ve just put together a video of one of our bachelor events held in June – a last taste at freedom before responsibility takes over [ARGHHHHH]. Check it out, as it gives a fast and furious overview of some of our stunts with BIG GRINS all around. It was a blast and we hope to see some more bachelors out this summer.  It’s a constant HOOT.

All three stunts from our 101 program will be featured again this year: The J Turn, Reverse 180 and the ever tricky Slalom course… as well as some new twists and turns for each month. You will find us at the Country Heritage Park.
